In independent India, even though the Jain community is a minority, they are the only ones who have had to overcome harsh injustice with respect to its places of worship.
In Shikharji, both sects of the jains have been worshiping the Hill peace and brotherhood since the pre-independence period which dates to 1933. However, in 1953 the state government issued a notification under Bihar Land Reforms Act, acquiring the entire Shikharji Hill owned by Jains as a part of agrarian reforms. This marked the first major injustice to the Jains in Shikharji post-independence.
Although there is a clear provision under said Bihar Land Reforms Act that Govt. cannot take charge of any place of worship. Nonetheless, the govt. has unjustly acquired the hill.
In similar contexts, there are series of events with supporting documents which have diminished the rights of Jains and all efforts to stop these malefide activities of the Govt. have borne no fruits.
We will be regularly updating this page to make the public aware about the breach of trust, discriminative policies, unequal treatment and infringement of rights of the Jain community in Shikharji.
It is the need of the hour that we wake up and unite to restrict this unjust succession of Govt. over Shikharji Hill, else we will be losing our most important place of worship forever. Please support this cause by signing the petition.
The First Major Injustice to Jains in post-independence period was Notification issued by State Govt. under Bihar Land Reforms Act in 1953 (“BLR ACT”) through this notification, Govt. snatched away the entire Shikharji Hill.
Under SECTION 4(F) OF BLR ACT Govt. did not have right to acquire any place of worship. However, ignoring both sentiments of Jains and the exclusion under Section 4(f), Govt. took over Shikharji Hill.
Govt. has put aside the fact that scriptural belief for the respective community is not challengeable. This is even accepted by the Supreme Court. Jains believe that entire Shikharji Hill is a place of worship but Govt. is not ready to accept this belief.
